I was 21 at the time and I wrote in my journal "...and a scream is heard around the world. It is a sad and unfortunate fact that if you are in college today and take part in actions or speak against tyranny, the consequences might be tear gas, buckshot, or bullets. I still believe that the best protest embodies living an exemplary alternative. To live a life of love, of honesty, and of creativity is to live a life outside of this hypocrisy and try to maintain some sanity in a system that we must protest against but have no replacement for...yet"
