Richard Avedon

Richard Avedon (1923–2004) began working as a freelance photographer, primarily for Harper’s Bazaar, at age of twenty-two and his first museum retrospective was held at the Smithsonian Institution in 1962. He had solo exhibitions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in both 1978 and 2002. Avedon became the first staff photographer at The New Yorker in 1992.
